Tax Evasion and Corruption rampant in Pakistan
Global Report | Sep 8 2009

Due to the widespread corruption in the government departments, as revealed to the public off and on via the media, the average Pakistani feels that paying tax is just losing money to officials who won’t spend it on welfare of the nation. As the World Bank report tells, there are irregularities even within the country’s taxation department where a big gap between the actual tax receipts and the tax collected has been found. But also, the government has never attempted seriously to run an awareness program regarding tax and its role in the country’s economy and people’s own lives. Most Pakistanis don’t know about the basics of tax and its significance. Hopefully, after the World Bank’s report, the government will take initiative toward causing awareness about tax evasion and also enforce strict disciplinary measures against tax evaders.
